Karen, voice recognition techniques are relatively reliable. That's how the
US could previously identify bin Laden on just audio tapes. The same voice
recognition techniques now identify the same individual previously
identified as bin Laden. No impressionist or imitator so far as I know has
managed to fool voice recognition techniques, especially with a sample
longer than 10 seconds.

But the US government isn't the only entity capable of doing such analysis,
consider the French, who also claim it's bin Laden, as from what I've read,
do the Israelis. Now all three nations could be conspiring, but news
organizations also have at worst access to the best voice technology
available five years ago, which is more than good enough to identify at
least 99% of fakery and likely closer to %. There are too many
entities for the voice on the audio to be a fake and not be detected.
