No, I'm working on a level of irony you don't even know exists.
But let's go back to what Mr. Anderson says, OK? He takes as an
assumption, without supporting evidence, that liberals are name-calling
bullies. Then he goes on to explain that this behavior is damaging to
democratic institutions. And that's it.
It's name-calling. The only reason you think it's anything else is
because he cites Locke and shit.
Here, let's roll tape....
< /html/ >
[..] A couple of years ago, for example, then-vice president Al Gore
gave a speech to an NAACP convention that perfectly embodies the typical
liberal response to criticism of racial preferences. "I've heard the
critics of affirmative action," Gore said. "They use their 'color blind'
the way duck hunters use a duck blind-they hide behind it and hope the
ducks won't notice." Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby incredulously
responded: "Hunters use a duck blind to kill ducks. What can Gore be
saying? That affirmative action's critics want to kill-blacks?"
Apparently so, for Gore went on in the speech to demand to know the
reaction of racial-preference opponents to a horrendous crime in
Virginia, in which a black man "was doused with gasoline, burned alive,
and decapitated by two men." [..]
We see both Anderson and Jacoby cheerily missing the point, pretending
they're stupid enough not to get it. Or maybe they're not pretending at
all. The real point being that there is still racism (as evidenced by
the lynching), and that we still need affirmative action in order to
counteract it, because people are dishonest to themselves and everyone
else about it. Gore never said the critics wanted to kill blacks, and
neither did he imply it.
But because that's a pretty solid argument, Anderson and Jacoby have to
invent a bunch of crap that can gum up the political landscape with
exactly the kind of bullshit you've been posting in this thread today.
If anyone were allowed to discuss anything real, or anything important,
then those problems might be solved, and that would be bad for them.
Because THEY ARE THE PROBLEM.
So instead, they have to make up some stupid, braindead criticism based
in unreality in order to distract away from the truth. And talking about
liberals as stupid or hypocritical or emotional means aids that end
immeasurably.
And that's what you're doing. You are a tool, and it's been fun calling
you names. Smart people, people with actual minds that actually work,
see what I'm doing here. You don't. You are deficient in appreciation of
irony.
