The long term goal is no violence. The shorter term goal is self
defense. It's a lot harder to defend oneself if you are not armed.
Yeah, it would be nice to reduce violence to zero. And maybe some day
that panacea will be reached. Until then I want the ability to
protect myself from criminals because, as I've mentioned, the cops
will not be around to protect my family when in the middle of the
night someone is breaking into my house or I'm leaving a restaurant
walking to my car when John B Criminal decides he wants my wallet. As
I have said, they usually get there after the fact. That doesn't
really do a whole lot of good.
