Not so much. The spending problem just sorta went along with the
usual sort of Supply Side idiocy:

Spending is comparatively unimportant to the Deficit issue. And
deficits are not a function Only of spending, but a combination of
spending and revenue decisions.

And the Rs have consistently managed to get that one wrong.
