Given the reports from Anbar, where the sunni tribes are proud of their
growing victories over al-Qaida, I'd say your narrative may need
updating.
(I know that al-Qaida is not and never has been within a country mile of
Iraq, but that's what the Iraqis and everyone else calls them.
Except those who don't, who call them "not al-qaida."
But you do have a point, given the accepted premise of al-qaida as a
self-replicating, they've apparently killed so many in Anbar the place
is now full of them.
But they seem somehow less violent.
