Subject: General Scowcroft

General Scowcroft (Reagan and Bush's senior's top man in the Pentagon)
did a TV interview on the Iraq war.

He originally was opposed to the war saying it would turn into chaos.
However, now that his prediction has come true, he opposes withdrawal,
figuring that continued occupation will set matters right and
withdrawing will just make a bad situation worse.

In particular, he says America should wait until the Iraqi parliament
and the Iraqi army are ready to take over from the USA fighting the
Iraqi resistance..

I can't believe Scowcroft is that naive. The Iraqi parliament would
never let that happen. They don't want the Americans to leave. The
presence of Americans means they can wash their feet in money.
Further, as soon as the Americans leave, they will all be skinned
alive as traitors.

Senator Kennedy described the situation as like allowing yourself to
be held hostage by the Iraqi parliament. It makes no sense to have
THEM dictating American foreign policy.
